A History of the AL West

The AL West was formed in 1969 alongside the AL East and the now-defunct AL West as part of Major League Baseball’s first divisional alignment. While the division has remained intact since its inception, it has seen several teams come and go. The Seattle Pilots only lasted one season in the AL West before relocating to Milwaukee and becoming the Brewers. The division also saw the arrival of the expansion team, the Seattle Mariners, in 1977.
